9 Ways To Use Your Phone Whilst Travelling

Technology has come a long way in the last 30 years. Most of us now have a mini computer in our pocket. But how best to use it during your travels?
Wanna know our 9 ways we use our phones whilst we are on the road? Read on.

#1 – Entertainment –

Life on the road can sometimes get a bit boring, yes believe me…even travel can be boring at times. We use our phones as a way to fill the time watching Netflix, playing games like Candy Crush, listening to podcasts and reading articles and books.

#2 – Navigation –

It’s alright planning your route before you take your trip but what if things change? What if you can’t or don’t want to visit a place anymore and have to change your plan? Well that’s where your phone comes in. We use the google maps app to access online and offline maps, along with other information online about the places we plan to visit. Rome2rio was a great tool we use whilst travelling around Sri Lanka, through the app we could search the best way to travel from place to place.

#3 – Reservations –

Changed your route plan? Don’t have a hotel booked? Use your phone to access apps such as booking.com. A great resource for booking accommodation. The app allows you to search through 100’s of hotels in 100’s of locations. By reviewing the places you have stayed you can gain access to a rewards system which will give you benefits to such as up to 15% discount, free breakfast and/or free room upgrades on select properties, Be sure to leave a review for each stay! Everybody is a winner!

#4 – Communication –

Your phone is a fantastic tool for stay in touch with everybody back home. Whilst connected to wifi use Skype & Whatsapp to keep in touch with your loved ones and check-in with your mates. These platforms are also great ways to send those all important pictures to the people who mean the most!

#5 – Social Media –

Do you have an online presence? We it can be easily managed from your phone! You can even blog from your phone these days, keeping your blog looking fresh always. Of course, there is the all faithful Instagram too. You can keep your followers in the know with what you are up to, as well as addictively scroll through Pinterest checking out the experiences of other people and taking notes of their tips for visiting Thailand!

#6 – Internet Banking –
Figured out how you are going to manage your money whilst on the road? Simple, internet banking. Each bank has an easy to use app that allows you to manage your finances. You can move your money from one account another easily, stay up to date with any credit card bills you have and keep your money safe!

#7 – Budget Tracking –

Great, you’ve got access to your bank accounts whilst on the go but what about tracking what you spend it on? We use, Travel Spend. The smart phone app lets you track your spending as and when you buy something. You create a ‘trip’, set yourself a budget & document your spending. The app will then let you know your average daily spend and the areas where you are spending most so you can keep on budget!

#8 – Finding Things To Do –

Visiting Thailand but don’t know what to do with your time there? Apps such as tripadvisor are a great place to start. In your palm you will have the tools to sniff out the cool club, the yummy restaurant or find out what the best sight-seeing activities are, where you are.

#9 – Staying In The Know –

The news can be a debbie-downer at times but it’s always worth staying in the know with whats going on. Whilst reading interesting articles and new reports, you may come across information about one or more of the countries you plan to visit. It could reveal if it’s safe to travel there, things to do when you get there or simply just facts that you didn’t already know. I don’t know about you but I am always eager to learn something new.
